What are the chances of contracting HIV from having sex with a?

The risk of getting HIV in this situation is pretty close to zero. First of all, less than 1% of all humans have HIV, and you can only get it from somebody who already has it. So the chance that you were even exposed in the first place is pretty small. Second, even if they already have it, you cant get it from them if they are taking antiviral medication and have reduced their viral load to an undetectable level. Third, even if they have HIV and can transmit it, the chance of getting HIV from one act of unprotected sex with an HIV-positive person is less than 1 in 100. HIV is actually much less contagious than most people think it is. What you should be worried about is the chance of getting HPV, herpes, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, or viral hepatitis. Those diseases are all far more common and far more easily transmissible than HIV. I suggest that you go to your local clinic and get comprehensively tested for all of these other diseases. Theyll test you for HIV too, but your chance of having gotten that is so small that there is no need to worry about that one.
