Is it possible for me to contract HIV virus when had unprotected sex?

Actually, there has been a recent study finding that sero-opposite partners having unprotected sex, when the HIV+ partner was on treatment and had a non-detectable viral load, had essentially zero risk of infection of the HIV- partner. ZERO: no linked HIV transmissions in PARTNER study after couples had sex 58,000 times without condoms. The operative part here being non-detectable viral load, not just on treatment. It seems that at non-detectable levels the threshold for transmission is not met. Now you will find a lot of commentary from activist groups and medical personnel advising that the study has not been replicated, that its too early to conclude that there is no risk of infection. Personally, I think the study is credible. I would run the risk. Now thats not advice as to what you should continue to do. Its just my personal assessment. If you have medical insurance that you can maintain, then the worst that can happen is that you are infected and have to spend the rest of your life on a 3-drug cocktail. You take the meds, you have a non-detectable viral load, and you have no prospect of HIV progression. I expect that Im going to take a lot of heat for this attitude. And you should know that Im HIV+. I have been since 1982. My genes seem to have been better than average because I survived without complication until the advent of the 3-drug cocktail in 1997. After that, its been easy sailing. So, read the study. Consider how long youve been having unprotected sex with your partner and that you are still HIV-. (At least Im assuming from your question that that is so.) Read the reactions to the study. (Google study HIV undetectable non-transmissable.) Then decide for yourself whether you want to continue condomless sex.
