Can a person who is already taking rabies vaccine as per 5 dose?
The question is still undergoing multiple changes, so I shall offer an answer to the original version...]Contracting rabies through sexual contact has never been found or suspected. By that I mean because a human case of rabies is extremely serious (normally 100% fatal), a case where there was no possible animal bite or similar contact would raise all kinds of eyebrows and queries. It has happened of course with corneal transplants, where the recipients developed rabies and on review, the (deceased) donor(s) had been diagnosed as having an encephalitis of other (non-infective) types. Clearly on those occasions, and perhaps on other occasions, too, rabies has been mis-diagnosed. Rabies has been the subject of active research ever since Pasteur himself, so even though we do seem to have gathered a considerable amount of information and understanding about the Lyssavirus group, I would never assume we have the whole picture. Mother Nature always finds a way to surprise us! Perhaps virologists with more complete and current experience with Lyssavirus would like to add further details.
